The Base of the Pyramid or BoP strategy of using market-based or enterprise approaches to fighting poverty has been garnering a lot of attention in the recent years.

June's ICT for International Development Meetup will feature a presentation by Allen Hammond, one of the pioneers and thought-leaders in the BoP space on the topic of Technology Transformations for the Base of the Pyramid (BoP).

This is a meeting co-hosted by ICT for International Development Meetup and World Resources Institute (WRI).

5:30-6:00 pm: Meet and Greet.
6:00-7:00 pm: Presentation followed by Q&A.

Dr. Allen Hammond (Bio), VP for Innovation and Special Projects at WRI, is charged with catalyzing and sometimes leading development of new projects, initiatives, and tools. He also directs WRI's Development Through Enterprise project, which works with foundations, development agencies, and a number of major corporations to further the use of pro-poor business strategies and digital technologies in development.

Among his successes are two initiatives well-known to ICT4ID practitioners: The Digital Dividend project and NextBillion.net site.

Dr. Hammond is principal author of a major research study of low income markets (The Next 4 Billion: Market Size and Business Strategy at the Base of the Pyramid) and has published 12 books and numerous articles in major journals and thought-leader periodicals, including Which World?: Scenarios for the 21st Century, a book focused on long-term sustainability issues. Dr. Hammond holds degrees from Stanford University and Harvard University in engineering and applied mathematics.

Note that keycards are needed to enter the building after 6:30 pm. If you will be arriving after 6:30 pm, please let us know ahead of time.
